Our Story

Origins

JB Kitchens began with a simple idea: a great kitchen isn’t just about a beautiful finish, it’s about the care, collaboration, and craft behind the scenes. In 2022, Josh Barr and Noah Edmonds teamed up to found JB Kitchens, bringing together over 30 years of combined experience in boat building, kitchen design and cabinetry. We had both spent years in the industry and saw an opportunity to do things differently. Our vision was to combine traditional craftsmanship with modern systems and digital tooling to deliver kitchens that truly stand out in both quality and experience.

Growing the business

What started as a shared dream between two passionate makers has grown into a thriving Wellington-based company creating bespoke kitchens across the region. Our founding belief remains the same: the heart of every great kitchen is a great team with a great process, this is where our slogan “ Created with intention” comes from. We’re proud that this ethos of teamwork, innovation, and integrity shines through in every project we complete.

1. Racing World

Noah’s background is rooted in high-performance manufacturing. He spent ten years working as a qualified composite boat builder, specialising in advanced materials, precision tooling, and modern fabrication methods within the marine industry.

During this time, Noah was part of high-performance boat building teams responsible for producing some of the leading vessels of their time. Working with world-class composite materials such as carbon fibre and advanced resins, he contributed to the creation of lightweight, durable, and highly efficient boats where precision and consistency were critical.

2. Craft mastery

After working in high-performance custom boatbuilding, Noah transitioned into large-scale production manufacturing in Australia, joining the production management team at one of the country’s leading trailer boat builders.

In this fast-paced environment, he led teams, streamlined complex workflows, and learned to balance speed with precision under tight production timelines. This experience sharpened his skills in leadership, process optimisation, and operational excellence. Foundations that continue to influence his work today.

3. Smarter Kitchens

Founding JB Kitchens allowed Noah to bring together everything he had learned across high-performance manufacturing and production leadership. He saw an opportunity to apply the innovation, precision, and systems-driven thinking of boatbuilding to an industry that had been slow to evolve.

By investing in advanced design software, CNC machining, and precision tooling, Noah has embedded technology and smart systems into every stage of production. This approach delivers greater accuracy, efficiency, and consistency, while fostering a culture that continually looks for better ways to design and build.

Under his leadership, JB Kitchens doesn’t just create beautiful kitchens, it pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in modern joinery.

1. values

Josh’s approach to work was shaped early. From his first job at Countdown at 15, he was instilled with a simple but enduring set of values: work hard, respect the people you work for, and take pride in what you do. These principles became the foundation of his career and continue to guide how he operates today.

At 18, Josh entered the joinery industry after being given an opportunity by his karate coach, who owned a kitchen company. What began as a chance quickly became a calling. Thirteen years later, he remains deeply immersed in the craft, continually learning, refining his skills, and driven by a genuine passion for creating beautiful, functional spaces.

2. Craft & Experience

Throughout his career, Josh has had the privilege of working alongside highly skilled craftsmen who demonstrated what’s possible when strong processes, time, and the right tools come together. These experiences reinforced the value of precision, patience, and craftsmanship.

Equally important were the lessons learned from seeing the opposite, projects affected by poor systems, unclear processes, and guesswork. These contrasts shaped Josh’s business mindset and highlighted the importance of structure, clarity, and continuous improvement in delivering consistently high-quality outcomes.

3. Leadership

Working in teams where not everyone shared the same level of commitment underscored for Josh how critical shared purpose and strong work ethic truly are. This belief sits at the core of JB Kitchens.

At JB Kitchens, the team is united by a simple philosophy: be better today than yesterday. Everyone is moving in the same direction, driven by a common mission, to be the best at what they do. The goal isn’t just to raise the bar within the industry, but to redefine it entirely.
